Default Now into March '09 and still not fixed...

This is becoming unbelieveable! The garage are maintaining that even though the PCM was replaced under recommendation and this has not fixed the problem, they intend to still charge for it... Over my dead body! Mazda UK Customer services are now involved in resolving this ridiculously long repair and today is their own deadline for resolution... I know the garage are never going to admit that "They cannot fix it" but I believe we are just gonna have to go in, demand the keys back and take it to a garage that will fix it.
If anyone from that particular garage reads this - Worst service I've ever seen and will never recommend you for even a tyre change. Pathetic
Shall keep you posted...

Thumbs down The next chapter of this appaling story...

Well, Forum friends... The situation is now completely blown wide open and possible legal action may be taken. May I be the member to fill you in...

As stated originally, the original PCM was deemed faulty. It was therefore replaced and re-programmed with Mazda'a own original PCM specification. This did NOT work! Same fault as before was still apparent. They proposed to try another PCM but only after my friend (the owner of said 6 MPS) paid for the first PCM replacement. Under advice, he refused in agreement with myself that there is no way a part is to be paid for if the problem with the car is still in existence... The car is NOT fixed and still has the SAME problem as before and the garage still wish to get another PCM and re-program it in a "standard" way to eliminate the problem which I must add - They claim that the ORIGINAL PCM was re-programmed beyond Mazda's specifications which is why they will claim costs on the original PCM and the 1st replacement! Mazda UK Customer services are now involved and ironically, they havn't been in touch all week. What ultimately gobsmacks me about this is the fact that Mazda themselves have failed drastically in their own Customer Services and there is still a car that hasn't been repaired after 7 weeks still sitting doing nothing. Ironically, they won't let the car be driven at all especially by the owner ( I wonder why!?)

I, myself am a huge Toyota fan as I have owned several in my life and have loved the time with each, but Mazda, after this experience, Never will I buy a Mazda... Apologies to you loyal Mazda fans out there but this situation has finally crossed the threshold. Mazda can go to hell...

although i can sympathize with you frustration, to hate mazda just cause of ONE car is pretty unfair, the obvious problem is the moronic dealership (guess they call it a garage in the UK) or whoever you taken it too, im pretty sure after the 3 day you should have just said fk u gimmie my car back now. If you taken it to another place and the same thing occurs, then here 2 problems, the mechanics around your way are morons, or if its the 1st year the spd6 came out then you obviously have a lemon car, but to have a dealership install a MAZDASPEED cai and then say its causing problems and refuse to cover it on a warranty then you have every legal right to sue the shyt out of them, btw did they atleast give you a free rental car, cuz they are supposed to do that (atleast in the states they are), whatever happens i wish you the best of luck.

The po234 overboost condition is most probably caused by a leak in the intake system between the turbo and the throttle body.If there is a leak the turbo cannot build pressure causing the pcm to try to compensate and try to turbo work harder. [ no boost no power] I had this on a mazdaspeed 6 it was a loose clamp by the throttle body that someone left loose. It set a p0234 and was a dog on the highway. The problem is the tech working on the car. Not mazda. The mazdaspeed cai should be coverd under factory warrenty . Find a different dealer that has a good master tech that can fix the car. I hope this helps

Red face The car is fixed with a very hefty cost!

First off to Carfixer2 - Thanks for your reply..! The problem along with your diagnosis sounds absolutely SPOT ON! I've had motor's in the past that have displayed the same type of fault at higher revs causing engine splutter but coz the car ain't mine - I don't really have much input to any hands-on repair except if the car in question was my own...

The next chapter now begins - The car is fixed! Virtually 7 weeks it has taken with the PCM being replaced twice, BUT let me help elaborate...

This has been taken from pure-mps.com written by the car owner;

The car tested and showed fault code P0234-Overboost Condition. Normaly this would indicate a faulty waste gate valve or perhaps a leak in the turbo. On this ocasion after trying all possibilities the garage determined it was the PCM itself. They replaced the PCM and copied the files from the original as is standard procedure apparantely. This did not resolve the problem. After weeks more deliberation they decided it req. another PCM except this time they would download the files from Mazda themselves. It worked successfully.

Apparently the car must have been remapped although they cannot prove it hence I am liable for the cost of both PCM at a cost of over 1300GBPounds each including 14.5 Hrs diagnosis time.

Now for some more insight - Mazda UK Customer Services were contacted 2 weeks ago approx mainly due to the length of time that was being taken to resolve this. Last that was understood was that they had asked for PHOTOGRAPHS of the original PCM unit to determine whether it had been Chipped or Modified in any way... This has proved inconclusive as they have now maintained that they cannot prove either way that it would have been modified or not - So my question is Why ask for the Photo's in the first place? I personally said to the owner to make sure that he got the Original and First (Mazda replicated) PCM's were returned to him especially if he had to pay for both which they did. Both look completely intact and sealed which leads to another statement that these PCM's do not need to be "opened" to be re-programmed... to replace an Electronic component, yes but this has not occured... I have to admit I believe that Mazda have conned my mate over. 2600 GBPounds is obscene especially over the pathetic time this has taken...

Ironically, wouldn't surprise me that someone has seen the previous post by Carfixer2 who has contributed to the repair of said Mazda6 MPS. The car is fixed 3 days afterwards...

Oh, by the way - bet the car has the original Air Intake system put back!

Toonzer Please post exactly what they did to find the problem and what they did to make the repair. Like I posted earlier, the leak is between the turbo and the throttle body, but you also have the inner cooler and the tubes that connect everything. Also, I forgot to mention, that the waste gate could be in-operative. Please post and let everyone know, I too am curious. Hope this helps.

Smile Well I finally drove it this weekend!

Hi there everyone! The car is fixed at the cost of 2 PCMs and a lot of labour which was discounted by 10%, lets say there was no change out of £2500GBP.

I have to say that the car is better now than it was before! Which leads the owner and myself wondering that the original PCM had been remapped... The engine now will go up to the redline with no hesitation or hinderance. As can be seen from older posts from Swan330 and myself, this has taken far longer than it should have. I havn't actually seen the invoice for the work done but rest assured I will either post it or Swan330 will do the honours and give a breakdown of what has been done to rectify this.

There really is only 1 more proper test to see if the entire problem has been resolved - Got to wait for some REALLY WET weather! Also the Mazdaspeed CAI has been removed and the original Air Intake re-installed.

And just to add - What a great car! We will be in touch ASAP...

Peace

Cool Another problem occured - fixed - but the end is finally here.

Well - things were OK for less than a week. The Engine started spluttering again randomly. It was taken straight back to the original garage. They then said that the Injector Module was faulty and needed replaced. Done!

Car has been absolutely fine since then but has cost soo much - selling is the only option...

Gutted... 7 months total with 2-3 months reliability.

I must express my gratitude along on behalf of the owner for all contributers towards this forum post! The owner and myself are determined to keep the car but each of us have a company vehicle. We've been friends for years but this situation has caused some serious friction between ourselves also.

What a rapid machine! However... Peace people!

can you name and shame the garage ? glad it got resolved in the end up, hope mine does too. oh just thinking lol hope i havent bought the car hahaha. i shouldnt laugh but at the moment im so frustrated and with hardly any feedback from the garage its looking like i might have the same saga except mine splutters or seems to lack power at 5200 rpm onwards, i dont get any warning lights though just seems like power tails off as if the engines strangled a little, garage have had it 2 weeks and no nearer a solution to the problem.
