Default Poor resale?

To make a long story short, the 2006 M6 we own is my wifes car. She had a '02 Lexus ES prior to owning the M6. She misses the Lexus and wants to get back in one. Last week we found an '05 with low miles at a Saturn dealer. When we tried to trade the M6 themost they would give us is $13,000!!

We have a fully loaded 2006 Grand Sport, V6, Bose/Sirius, HID, heated leather with only 9300 miles. It's MSRP was $29,000. We bought it last February, the last '06 on the lot, for $20,000.

How could this car lose 56% of it's value in 2 years? We were told that $11K to $13K is all they go for at the auctions. We went to another dealer and all they would give us is $11K.

I was shocked. We had the Lexus for 3 years and only lost $6500 and had put 45,000 miles on it.

Can anyone explain why the Mazda6 depreciates so much?

Dealers have to be able to resell the car at a profit. They always lowball you with a trade-in.

When I sold my 3 the dealer was offering me $8K, I got $10,500 for it from a private buyer.

dano,

You're confusing "trade in allowance" with "what the car is actually worth". By all means, don't trade it in...sell it yourself and get what the car's actually worth! Then you have a much better down payment. Good luck,

David

Dano,
You didn't pay the $29,000 MSRP, so don't use thatto work outthe %. You lost $7,000 or 35% of the $20,000 you actually paid. I call it one-third gone after 2 years which is not too bad. You'll always get more selling it privately.
Good Luck.

I sold mazda6i 04 back to bodyshop in 2005 for $11,000 (27,000 miles for 1 and half years Iownership).I paid $18,000 including tax and lic when new. Because of car accident, I would not want to drive my old mazda6i (4cy).

If your car title is clean, then selling price for your car is low.If I were you, I will not sell car. for $20,000 (including tax and lic) with fully load mazda 6. It is a bargain purchase. You could not find it in either camry or altima.
