Just a quick e-mail to say thanks for the information on progamming a key fob. Just bought a 04 Mazda 6 and only came with one key fob. Picked one up on e-bayfor$10.00.I followed your directions for programming it and it worked perfect.

Thanks again!

I just replaced the battery on one of my fobs and although the red light flashes the doors stay locked. I'll try this process tomorrow to see if it'll work with mine.

Well it works fine with the fob that's already working but not with the one that I replaced the battery.
Anyone else had this?

So I called the local dealer today to ask how much to reprogram the fob. £ 95 ($140) beause it's 1 hours labour charge.
I think I'll be opening and closing doors a few more times yet before I resort to that.

A useful tip.
When you change the battery do it very quick and it shouldn't lose it's memory. This guy took the battery out and noted what it was then oredered a replacement off the internet. Fitted the new one 2 days later and hence it needed reprogramming.

Better still when you find you need to get close to the car to open and close with the remote, that's the time to change the battery.

I hope this helps.

so frustrating... in the same boat w/ my 06 mazda 6... From what I can tell, everyone w/ 06 mazda 6 is having the issue w/ step7 where you are supposed to press the button on the remote... car does not respond... when you pull the key out, the car does the autolock cycle stuff but the keyfob is not recognized...

No. Totally different remote style & process. Key fob is programmed via diagnostic computer.

I am running into the same issue with my new fob that I got from ebay. The locks on the door cycle indicating the car is in programming mode, but when I hit the LOCK or UNLOCK buttons twice, nothing happens. Have you resolved the issue?
