Radio displays in cold weather

Radio displays in cold weather
I've noticed this past week that when I first turn my car on in the morning the radio displays do not light up. They come on after a couple of minutes once the car has warmed up. The temps have been in the upper teens this past week, so I don't know if it's just the cold that's affecting it or what. Is this supposed to happen?
