Default Remote Car Start and Engine Immobilization

I just recently purchased a 2005 Mazda 6i Hatchback. I have not picked up the car yet but wanted to buy a car starter for it with an alarm system. I did some research and found the cars to have Engine Immobilization to them, causing issues with car starters being installed. Does every 6 have this feature on it or was it something that was requested by the owner as an option when they purchased the car. If its and option, how would you know if the car has it built in?

all mazda 6's have the immobilizer keys. You need a third key that is programmed so the installer can bury it under the dashboard. The key itself will cost you $30-35. You need it to be programmed. The dealer can do that, some installers can as well, ask them first before you assume they can. To program the third key you need the two originals.

Mazda makes a very good Remote start kit for the 6. I had one installed by the dealer on my 2006 6S and it works perfectly with the factory alarm and immoblilzer function. Total cost just under $400, a bit higher than some of the aftermarket units installed....but....its a Mazda factory part installed by a Mazda dealer, which eliminates all of the potential finger-pointing eposides that might occur if there were problems either with the remote start or caused by it. You do get a small, seperate remote that controls only the start function, everything else works normally from the ignition key remote.
