Default Rough Idle

I just recently purchased a 2006 5-door with a 2.3 autotrans. Upon cold start up the engine has a really loud rattle and sputters. I have had it to the dealer and they tell me this is normal?? They said they did re-flash the computer with a updated program, but that did not help. Has anyone else had this issue or any suggestions.

Thanks

haha. That is not normal! I have never heard of this problem. Quite odd for a Mazda to have a problem!

If your MAF..mass air flow sensor is dirty...it will definitly rough idle...Sensor is just pass the air cleaner. If your air filter wasn't doing it's job or you live in a dusty dirty area...the sensor can get coated. I enclosed 2 pics. You can leave the plug on...just take the 2 screws out..the unit is very rugged,,,see if the plastic looks dirty at all. The little round sensor you see is the engine air intake sensor. The MAF is down inside the hollow tube...don't put anything down there- like a cloth,ect..if there is any dust or dirt use an electronic circuit cleaner that leaves no residue...just a little shot. Bill Hope my pics make it here!

I agree with that, but its an 06 so it shouldn't be dirty and if it is he shouldnt have to deal with cleaning it, the dealer should...

Hey Billfrompa, why do you have those two wires connected on the MAF sensor for?

There is a possibilty it may be your throttle body. I had trouble with mine but I have a V6. I didnt have a check eng light on either. Another thing you could do is either unplug the Mass Air Flow sensor or the Throttle Body and have it set a fault in the system. then you take it to the dealership and they will most likely replace them. Good luck
