Noggin: You have POST #100 and I have #101. That count includes the original post. Therefore I have RESPONSE #100.

I like sharing the spotlight.

little cleaner. Ran out of zip ties, broke a few, but it should hold in. will monitor over the next few days. I'll end up having to replace that top part of the air box since I don't want this to be a permanent thing like this.

Don't be stupid (I hope you didn't buy it, had me worried!). After looking at the nice pic you just took, you could put larger screws and longer. The screw head does not need to fit inside the recessed hole. You could put a flat washer and a screw head above it obviously. That would put pressure on everything. I think a #10 screw would work.
Use Your Noggin!!!

Don't waste your time at a Junkyard either, you may get "same ****e different pile". Put bigger, longer screws and be done!

Upset that Daytone 500 will not happen today, looks like it's going to rain more than dry. Plus the fact it will take 1.5 - 2 hours to dry the track.

You can find the cover online for about $50.
2004 MAZDA Mazda6 Parts - Online Mazda Parts

I just went to the dealer to get the lower cover and they wanted $300 just for that. I'm going to go try a pick and pull at a junk yard, it is an 04.

Well, the light came off and went on again. I am pretty sure that the MAF is in there fairly securely. I'm thinking its still another issue perhaps. Maybe there is an air leak, but When I was looking at it, it wasn't really moving.

Interestingly enough, where the copper tubing here, it WAS covered by rubber, but maybe it melted or slipped off recently? What is this copper tube by the throttle body? I swear a week ago it was covered.

edit: also noticed my engine cover was loose. apparantly they didn't put it together correctly when they did my valve cover gaskets on friday. back in tomorrow to have them do it.

It looks broken or something missing, looks like someone tried to mickey mouse something. Between that and the MAF it's time to buy a new intake.
This is CARB California friendly: 69-6026TS - K&N 69 Series Typhoon Kits, Performance Intake Kit
It's the same one I have. You can use it as an SRI, or a CAI. It comes with a decal for California emissions.
It's a blessing in disguise. Get rid or that P.O.S. Accordian tube!
