Default Small bulb in headlight

The small bulb that is in the headlight that lights up with the regular headlight is burnt out on mine. It is the really tiny bulb that is closest to the grill. I bought the bulb and opened my hood to change it and OMG it looks like a major undertaking to change out the bulb! Looks like you have to take so much apart! Has anyone changed out this bulb or even a headlight? Or did you have to take it to the dealership? If so how much am I looking at spending having the dealership change it? Thanks for your help!

I didn't even know that one lights up. I was guessing it was for the highbeams. I looked at the unit because i wanted to add some sylvania silverstars and it looks somewhat complex to install. You have to unscrew everything and then take the pins off, and it just looks like it isn't worth it. I dont think they would charge you more than 30-50 dollars to do it. I think that is somewhat hi, but Id just call and ask. I think I would go with them. But I could be wrong!

No, you won't have to take much apart. It' rather quite easy. There is a plastic cover (somewhat large in size) that covers access to the back of the lighting assembly that containts the bulb (along with the bright, and fog lamp bulb). The only bulb that has a separate cover is low beam lamp because it is equiped with a projector unit in addition to the bulb. Anyway's, the cover you need to remove is rectangular in shape and again, is rather large (probablay 8 inches by 4 inches). Once removed, you will have access the those three bulbs listed above and their wiring harnesses ... from there it's "as simply as changing a light bulb".

For other simple fixes, I would recommend buying the shop manual on CD-ROM for your specific year and model. I bought one for my 2004 3.0L Sport 6 on Ebay for $8.00 with a $3.00 shipping charge.... So for $11.00 I have access to the same shop manual that the techs use at the Mazda Dealer. SMART INVESTMENT!

I bought it because I changed all the bulb in my front assembly to H1 7500K lights ... WOW what a difference over stock. I also bought it so that I could change the cabin air filter our cars are equiped with myself. It's easy as pie, and only takes like 5 minutes.... funny my dealer wanted to charge me an hour of labor time, plus the cost of the filter.

Hope that helps and best of luck to you.

I can't give you a copy, but I'll let you know where you can get your own, see below:

Pick up the same manual I have on EBAY, There is even one for sale right now....Item number 8039228909
Buy it now, $8.00 US

I love it, it even includes the body shop manuals, engine, electrical, and transmission guides.

It is also multilingual.

I would burn you a copy and sent it, but it is technically licensed by Mazda, so that would be illegal. I would just buy the one I have listed above or another similar. It is good for model years 2003-2005.

thanks man , I just ordered mine !

he must be making a bundle at this low price with all the manuals he's selling ! He surely copies the copyrights ; nice lucrative business indeed !

I wonder if he makes 'em for my Cobra
