Default Spin-on oil filter conversion

I did the spin-on conversion to my 6 this weekend. Here are pics of the completed filter assembly, and the strategically-located 6" holes in the plastic shield, to allow oil changes without having to remove the shield.

I found Delco PF-53, and Fram 3600 filters work. The 3600 is about an inch longer than either the Mazda LF10-14-302 or the PF53. The PF46 DOES NOT fit (it was on the list I had of compatible filters).

i would guess about 30 minutes between cutting the holes in the lower shield and swapping that filter out (would need oil changed etc in the process).

and depending on if you take the bumper off.. give or take 5-10 minutes just for that process.

this is all for first-timers... your speed picks up as you do the process again

Yeah, maybe 30 minutes total. It's very easy...4 bolts, plus swapping the oil pressure sender to the new bracket.

Old catridge filter assembly for sale cheap...with slightly used cartridge filter included.

It gives me an oil change for $8 total.

It also gives me the ability to change the oil in 5-7 minutes, and with no jack or jack stands.

I put 30k miles on my daily driver per year, and do ALL my own maintenance. This conversion is huge for me.

Any warranty issues for changing oil yourself?

as long as you have proof (documents or receipts) that you change your oils every so many miles... there will be no problems with your warranty.

Schweet.

I just enjoyed a 12 minute oil change last night for $8.95 ($6.88 for oil, $2.07 for filter).

Love that spin-on conversion.

The only headache is that the drain plug is right smack in the middle of the car, and since I can't fit under the car on the creeper, it makes it quite a stretch to reach it (and I'm 6'2").
