Throttle Body

Throttle Body
I have a 2003 V6 Mazda6 that was purchased 4 years and 4 weeks ago. I also purchased the extended warranty. My check engine light came on recently and I was told that my throttle body was faulty and needed to be replaced. However, this is not covered by an extended warranty and my warranty ran out 3.5 weeks ago. I am pretty upset about this and wound up with a 600 dollar bill to repair this. My car has only 35000 miles.
It seems like I have read that this is a pretty common problem with this car. Is this earlier than expected? Is this a typical problem with other cars? Given my circumstances, is this something that I would normally be expected as an out of pocket expense? My car knowledge is minimal, but I am pretty unhappy about this and any input is appreciated.

RE: Throttle Body
it is a very common issue with the V6's, but it usually happens pretty quickly in it's life.
are you able to drive the car at all? if so, and you are really nice, maybe someone here can help you? i only say this as, just like the fan control module that will brake on your car soon if not yet, it's a mazda problem that should have been addressed and fixed. anyhow, if you have a good local 6s friend, have them swap in your TB and drive to the dealer and get it fixed under their warranty? my old roommate has gone through 2 fan control modules AFTER his warranty has expired this way.
otherwise, if you are gonna get a TB, there's a guy over on 6club that makes "optimized" ones that give you a bit of an added kick, and i think a few hundred cheaper than the 600 you were quoted?
