Ever since Ive owned my car I have used 93 octane and it seems to great, no problems at all. I cant tell you if there is a difference between 87 and 93.

the higher your octane, the slower it will burn which will limit the ticking noise in your engine. I say that if you dont have that problem, then keep using 87 octane. but if you get annoyed by the sound, keep upping your octane level until it stops. oh, and if you got the extra couple of bucks to spend on the higher octane as well. the 87 octane is sufficient for your car to run fine.

I have the exact same ticking. If I sit in traffic and then apply the slightest amount of gas I hear the noise.

I have ticking noise too. I really surprised that someone else has the same problems, I thought that It's the defect of my car only.

When I was buying Mazda 6, it has 25000 miles and there were no any strange noises absolutely. I'm sure because I always listen to the engine very suspiciously. In a couple of days the ticking noise started coming out. Now there's 32000 miles and the engine is still ticking when accelerator is not pushed.

Maybe the prior owner used fuel with more of octane. I did not try to use more octane fuel...because I don’t know will it be OK for the engine if I will use more octane, and next time less octane fuel? Please give me advise what fuel should I use, what will be better and preferred for the engine 95 (European measure) or 98 (European measure).

Currently I use "95 Euro Ultima" fuel.

Does this ticking noise that you are all hearing occur at idle with engine fully warmed up and does everyone with this noise have the 3.0l v6 engine?

I hear the noise when my engine at idle...warm or cold any way it's ticking.....

Please give me advise may I try using 98 octane fuel (european standard) as now I'm using only 95 octane....If it will be ok for my engine when I use 98 octane fuel, and next time again 95 octane fuel.
Thank you.

98 Octane???? Why would you want to use a high octane gasoline. Using higher Octane unless you have a custom car is way to much. Drop it to 91 or even to 89. That should help.

the knocking does occur at both periods of just being started as well as when warmed up. Higher octanes in gas have limited the pinging sound in the engine, but it still likes to occur. When the temperatures in the area become cooler, the noise is more prevalent. I've had my oil changed hoping that might have been the problem, but 500 miles after that oil change, the problem still persists. Does mazda dealership have anything to help us guys with our v6 3.0Ls out?
