Tire treadwear OEM
#23
RE: Tire treadwear OEM
I've had good luck (all weather) with my Toyo Proxes FZ4 in a 225/45R17 (on my Mazda3)
Had the Michelins on my wife's Mazda6 and they were awful in snow (tread packed up and turned the tire into a slick) My wife had numerous occasions where her car would simply sit there and spin the tires with little to no throttle.

RE: Tire treadwear OEM
I had flatspotted my two fronts in an accident (nope, no ABS on this one) in Dec. '04. By spring '06, the front Michelin OEMs were already down to the treadwear indicators (about 20k miles). Unbelievable.
I now have Bridgestone G 009 tires on there.
The difference in wet traction is amazing with these Bridgestones. The Michelins were just HORRIBLE which matches reviews I've read at TireRack

If maximum dry grip is all you're after, then try a set of bridgestone potenza RE01-R's granted, they aren't cheap (225/45 R17's = $140 per) and they won't last long (treadwear rating of 140) but my god do they have grip! I run them for autocross, and while they aren't quite at the same level as R-comps, they are about as close to slicks as you are gona come with something that you can drive on the street with.
