Default Tires Sizing for MazdaSpeed6

Hello,
I've got a 2006 MazdaSpeed6 and need some new summer tires. I run the stock rims in summer and smaller aftermarket rims in winter. Stock summer tire size is 215/45/18. Tire rack suggests that a 225/45/18 might fit as well. Mazda dealership tech claims that the front has clearance for a 225/45/18 but not in the rear without modifying with some cutting in the wheel well unless you change rims away from OEM. The tire I'm looking at buying is not available in a 215, only 225. (Considering Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, about $75 per tire cheaper than Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 which seems to be the best available in a 215, both of which better than a Michelin Pilot Sport PS2). I don't feel like using the winter rims in summer since living in a cold northern climate we get enough snow that I need the ability to switch between summer and winter gear in my own garage without having to go to a tire shop and wait, let alone an extra $60 each time they swap tires on the rims. So with all that said, is anyone on this board running a 225/45/18 on a stock 2006 MS6 rim without any trouble of the tire rubbing?
Thank you very much in advance for your responses.

You can fit 225 without a problem front and rear, I know several guys that run 235's at the autocross on the stock wheels and they have no problems with rubbing. Star specs are awesome tire as are the RE-11's, thought IMO the stones aren't worth the extra money. If you are really worried about rubbing you can always step down to a 225/40 as well size tire as well, or even a 235/40.

Thanks for the reply.
Just realized, I didn't get clarification from the dealership if their concern was rubbing due to the added 0.35 inches of tire height going from 215/45/18 to 225/45/18, or if it was the added 0.39 inches difference in tire width. Going down to a 225/40/18 drops to 0.51 inches below OEM 215/45/18 tire height, so that would seem to fit from a height perspective, but not sure if it was a width issue, which 225/45 vs. 225/40 would be the same.
