I have heard the transmission cooler may increase the life of the transmission. I have a 2005 Mazda 6, 2.3 I4, Automatic Transmission. I have heard that the 03 and 04 ATX had alot of problems. Should I invest in the tranny cooler? In addition, how much do they cost!

At 5,000 miles I notice that sometimes mainly when I just start driving the Transmission does something quite strange. Betwee 1st and 2nd gear it almost locks up or something like that. Im not a mechanic. When it finally switches to second I can hear a thump sound. I can even feel the rear of the car almost shake for a split second. Is this something to worry about. It mainly does it during the first 5 minutes of driving.

i had tranny cooler on my accord by comptech and it suppose to be better for having the supercharger.

at the time they told me that it's also a good to have product even for stock.

it won't hurt to have it!!!

Thanks for the relpy about my Mazda 6 transmission question. Is this
shift shock deal something I should be worried about? Is it a mechanical
problem or is it just a matter of changing a computer code or something
? I will do anything to make sure I get alot of miles out of this car.
Thanks.
don't know how to answer your guestion.

just change more fluid and go from that on.

my current s2000 i change more now cuz i start to track more.

No it is not a mechanical problem but only a computer calibration change. As to the trans fluid change. It will depend more on what you have done. A simple drain and refill is fairly inexpensive and can even be done at home in a driveway. Problem is that it only drains out 3qts or so and the system holds 14 or more quarts. If you go this route then change every 10k miles or so. A full system flush is more expensive but it also exchanges all of the fluid with new. This should be done every 30-45k. Times also vary greatly with how the vehicle is driven or if you tow anything. The hotter the fluid gets the less its lifespan. That is why a cooler is such a good idea.

don't you think 30 to 45k miles is too long of wait for change?? especially with tranny that already have problems with the factory?

Again it will depend on how the vehicle is driven and where. If you live in Arizona and tend to drive hard or pull loads then sooner the better. Fluid condition is the main decider on what kind of maintenance should be done. We have not had any problems with the 6 or 3 transmissions where I live. Shift shock has been the only complaint and that is a computer problem and not due to burnt fluid. Maybe the transmissions you refer to were in the 4 cyl 626? They had a substantial fail rate but was due to overheated oil. Ford used the same trans in the Probe and had very few problems because they added an oil to air cooler whereas Mazda did not.
