Wheel/Tire fitment for 08 Mazda 6
I'm trying to find out if some wider wheels will fit my 08 M6. I have
ASA AR1 aftermaket wheels with an offset of +53mm / 5.91 backspacing / 5-114 bolt pattern. Can anyone tell me if 225/50-17 tires will cause any clearance issues. The OE size is 215/50-17. These are .3" wider and .4" taller. I keep getting conflicting information and don't want to spend $500+ on tires that won't fit.

I'm running ASA AR1's in 18x7.5 with 48mm offset outfitted with 225/45 tires and they fit just fine, now that I've had the rear fenders rolled. As for your case, I'd run 225/45s they'll be a little shorter, but will be closer to the stock size than 225/50's. This will make the speedo read about 5mph high @ 60mph, but that's better than it registering low (lower chance of accidental tickets)

Thanks much. According to the sizing chart it looks like a 225/50-17: 25.9" diameter is smaller than a 225/45-18: 26" diameter. The OEM 215/50-17 is 25.5" in diameter. I'm hoping the offset won't be a factor here. I was actually thinking I'd rather have the speedo read low since I'd be putting on fewer miles.

That's what I thought. So why then are you referring to 18" tires in the following quote:
You do know that 225/45 R18 tires will not fit on your rims. Right?

CKeffer in post #2 said he is running 225/45-18 without problems after rolling the fenders. I was just stating that the 225/50-17 I would like to run is actually smaller than the 225/45-18 that he is running without a problem. I currently have 215/50-17 on the wheels now. Both 215/50-17 and 225/50-17 will work with 17x7 wheels, correct?
