Buying car with head gasket leak
Hi all first time poster,
I am looking to buy a 2002 mazda 323 Astina. 186,000Kms on the clock, manual, no RWC and no rego. And he said he would happily take $500 for it. The problem is, there is some body damage.. Scratched door, and big chunk above wheel arch. (Not really bothered too much as I have a friend who is a panel beater who is happy to help) and he said it is over heating. One mechanic said to him that it's a cracker radiator head, and another one said that it is a head gasket leak. I am lead to believe that it is more than likely a head gasket leak, because it overheats within a short time of driving, and there is bubbling coming from coolant reservoir. Is it worth buying the car for $400-$500, paying an additional $100 for towing, and trying to fix it myself as a project car? Aside from that the cars interior is clean, and comes with alloy wheels with plenty of tread including the spare. I was thinking WORST case scenario, I can sell the wheels and part out as much as possible and just have a scrap yard tow the rest away.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!
Project cars are worth value if your thoughts are trying to sell and make profit. You are the only one that knows what you can DIY and must pay to have done.
Frankly your post is going to what might lead to negative responses from members. I hope it doesn't! I have done some projects that my friends would have question my judgement on the project! My most infamous is a Blown (supercharged) small block Chevy in a 1959/60 MGA. LOL
I would say if you like the car and car and can do most of the work yourself to get it running well, then go for it!
You must decide!
If you do please post pictures of your project. These kinds of thread I really enjoy following!!!!
