What are the goals you're trying to achieve with the addition of a CAI?

The only gain you will get is the size of the hole in your bank account, these things are mainly for racing applications. Any gain will be minimal at best and at 5000+ rpm. Do you track it or is it a daily driver? If a DD then leave it alone, if all you want is sound then remove the resonator from the air filter box.

Where do you want the extra power; in the mid-range or at the top end?

If you want more mid-range power then there's pretty much nothing you can do; if you want more power at the top end, the you might eeek one or two hp out of the poor beastie at redline, however, be advised that there is usually a corresponding drop in min-range power due to the loss of intake resonance.

The resonator is an extra smaller box attached to the stock air box that diverts air flow to make it quieter. Some people remove them, others (the smart ones) drill holes at the bottom of it to let in colder air.

Smarter? I'm thinking that's a matter of conjecture as many folks, me included, think it's a rather lousy idea.

Since when is letting in more colder air a lousy idea?
Logic dictates you need to re-think!
