CX-9 Strange Trans Shifting And Rust On Top
Just bought Mazda #3 - a 2016 CX-9.
Problem 1 occurs when the temperature is above sixty degrees and the car has been sitting overnight, The shift into Drive is imperceptible. As I start driving on the lane (10 mph max) the transmission very hurriedly shifts through the first three gears with a slight jerking motion at each shift point. It takes only seconds to get into third, sometimes fourth gear. This will continue until the car is warmed up. Once warmed up the transmission works perfectly with precise, well-timed shifts I can only barely feel. I don't perceive any slippage. I had similar symptoms on my 03 Audi A6, which let to a rebuild of the trans, though on that vehicle the torque converter was not locking up whereas on this vehicle it appears to be doing so. The Audi was also an AWD vehicle. I just had the trans fluid and filter changed with no change in performance. The fluid that came out was medium pink and there was no evidence of metal shavings in the pan. Has anyone else experienced this?
Problem 2 is rust spots on the top of the vehicle. There are several dozen tiny "pimples" where the paint is blistering. These are all very tiny spots, but there are many. I am going to have the roof repainted, but am curious if any others have experienced this problem. I'm aware Mazdas made during the period when they were in allegiance with Ford had serious rust issues, but I thought those were resolved when they parted ways.
