Unfortunately I do not have one at the moment. I was considering getting the Cx3 or 3 from 2017

The third generation (2014 to 18) Mazda3 is a great car. The third generation is more refined than the earlier generations and has better handling than the fourth.

I recommend it to anyone who wants 90% of the driving dynamics of a similar BMW with 10% of the repair budget. As long as you don’t need the space of an SUV, it is a perfect vehicle.

I don’t know much about the CX-3 except that it has the same reliability.

Drive them both and let us know your questions.

I have heard there are issues with the timing chain on a lot of Mazda cars, is this an old issue or a persistent issue?

Looking at a cx-3 from around 2017 +

Alternatively I'm interested in a Mazda 3 hatchback of a similar age.

Trying to book a test drive but the garage hasn't got back to me yet

Haven't seen any timing chain issues since the old series Mazda speed 3 & 6, and CX7 turbo. All fixed from 2010'ish onwards.
