Hi! I'm new!
Hello!
I need help, my protege ( that I've owned for 8 years) is having problems. When I first bought the car it ran great. At 1k miles it hiccuped on me when I was accelerating on an onramp. It never happened again, so I brushed it off as a onetime fluke. 3 years ago it started hiccupping even more and more frequently. I took it in for a diagnostic 3 times: no one could replicate the problem (btw it's an automatic) Finally earlier this year it got worse...the car was shifting irratically. I took it to the dealer and they told me I needed an new tranny. They wanted 5k!!!! I went to aamco for a second opinion, and they agreed, new tranny: $3,500. So then I found a place that sells refurbished transmissions for cheap...they tried 3 different ones and none fixed the problem. Finally I decided to take it to a specialist, even if it did cost more. A factory rebuilt transmission was put in last week. I went to pick it up and my mechanic told me that it still hiccups. he wants to follow through with the warranty on the trans. which is fine by me, but I'm afraid that a new transmission won't fix it. I have a feeling it's the computer or some electrical problem. Anyone else experience this?
