mazda 323f 1998 using excessive oil
Hi all
My car has been using at least a full 5 ltrs of oil every month or so. I had it tested and they said that my piston rings may have gone. I dont seem to be losing power. Could it be anything else? No signs of leaks I've cleaned my PCV valve but dont know if this would cause it. Nobody seems to want to do my rings if this is the problem.
Thanks.
Any ideas?
Mel

Five liters of oil in a month might be hugely bad or just an annoyance; it all depends upon how many kilometers you drive per month.
Regarding the test you had performed which concluded the rings were bad; do you know which actual test was performed?

i only do between 500 to 600 at most a month. As far as I know they did a compression test with water ? I think it was water as they had to use an air compressor to blow some out as my car wouldn't drive after.

Wow, nearly a liter per 100 kilometers? Yikes, is the engine leaking badly or are you laying down a blue fog of smoke everywhere you drive?
Long story short, if you aren't leaking that much oil, I would shop around for a used engine from a junk yard and have it swapped into your car.
