Default New in VA!

Hey everyone! Just bought a 3s Hatch GT mainly for my wife. We've owned a '96 Miata, and an '06 3s Hatch which our daughter in Boulder, CO now has.

My wife always missed that car, even tho she got the SUV of her dreams, so I was able to get her what she missed, only a little nicer version.

We had a 2 door Focus SES coupe that we used as a beater for in town runs and when she was commuting by herself. I'll be selling that now.

Anyhow, our car has a couple issues I hope to get resolved. 4th Gear synchro is bad; get a soft grind going into 4th every time. The other thing is a humming noise coming from the dash after we turn the car off. Seems to be humming most of the time. It's not that loud, in fact with the car running you can't hear it. Just trying to find out if that's normal or not. I'll post in the other section.

Hope to learn a lot, and eventually be able to contribute as well!

Well... not much to do about 4th gear syncro except replace it. Gears 3 - 5 have a single syncro. The beefier lower gears have double syncros.
You might want to consider a stage I or II clutch while you're there. And perhaps a street lightened flywheel to free up some hp.

As for the humming, I'd be willing to bet its the electro-hydraulic steering settling down after a drive. I've never had it in my '04 but have read that some others do. It the pressure slowly being released from the system. It should stop after a few minutes.

Hey, appreciate the replies. Not much into modding, so if they can just get it to shift like it's supposed to, we'll be happy.

As far as the humming, one time it's stopped, but most of the time it just hums, and I'm talking after like 48 hours. We never had it in our '06 either, but this baby has got every bell and whistle Mazda can throw at it, so who knows. I started to just go through and pull fuses until it stopped, but hey, that's what the Mazda techs can do.

The flywheel would be a Mod, but the clutch a simple upgrade. And since you'd be there already... why not? Better clamping force might improve power, and will almost certaining improve mileage.
If the car's got some mileage, and you already have the transaxle out, do yourself a favor and do the clutch.

Only 8K miles; clutch feels fine. I appreciate the thoughts tho- -
