Noob in NC
Hi all. Just wanted to intro myself. Just bought a 1990 miata and I love it!! Has a new top and timing belt. Just put on 4 new tires and will be doing the breaks soon. Any advice on breaks is greatly appreciated. This car is SWEET and has been taken care of! Has all the records and maintenance since new. Still has original owners manual, sticker and even the Japanese shipping sticker. If anyone knows of any issues these little cars are prone to would love to know about them. We plan on putting it in the shop this winter. Replacing both doors (someone tried to do a home repair on some dings and dents) stripping it down and repainting. Going from white to corvette yellow :-) Next will be new wheels and probably will replace cloth seats with new leather ones. Oh, car has 169,554 miles on it and still runs like a new one. I'm really impressed with this little car and plan on holding on to it for a good long time. Husband says when the motor goes we'll be dropping a T5 tranny and ford 302 in it...hahaha.

Hi; the only issues are:
First, if you have to have any OBD diagnostics done on it, you'll have to go to a Mazda shop. The Autozone and NAPA code readers are not compatible with cars of that vintage and will spew out rubbish that says you have to replace stuff your car hasn't even got.
Second, if you have to have it pollution inspected, be sure to tell the inspector you have a pre-OBD-II vehicle, so the older test procedure (exhaust gas analysis) applies, otherwise a dimwit will fail you.
Third, selling you Miata might be a problem; any Miata owners I know just won't even think of selling them.
Finally, the T5 Ford 302 fantasy- just forget it! You look after that machine and you won't even be able to find a T5 or a 302 in a junkyard by the time your little motor packs it in!
Have fun!
