hi to all you clever people i have a sick auto mx3 who really doesnt want to leave the drive we tried all the basic things and had it checked out by a couple of mobile macanics they say it the ecu as it over fuels the trouble is getting a used ecu at a reasonable cost i really want to take her out again she doesnt deserve to die any help or idears would be apreciated thank you all x

That's a lot, but what keeps you from getting one from the U.S.A?
And here is another question: how good are those mechanics you consulted?
You (they) say it gets too much fuel. That could be leaking fuel injectors, leaking fuel pressure regulator, faulty throttle position sensor. you may think they checked all of that (the basics) but check again.
Another reason could be the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) Sensor failing. With this one it will start when cold but sputter and possibly die when warm, because the sensor fails to tell the ECU that it's time to reduce the fuel amount. It's often overlooked because ECT sensors are robust.
I am sure you checked the air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor.
Last: the 1.6 engine is also used in many 323 or Protege models. Ask your parts dealer/ junk yard if they are using the same ECU.
