hks vs magnaflow
im looing to buy a catback for my '07 mazda3 (2.0)....
so heres what im looking at.
HKS cat back
$650 +taxes
Magnaflow
$620, taxes included.
and im installing the exhaust myself, to save money.
so i would like ur guys opinions...
ive already youtube'd it, but it would be way better in person to hear it....
any comments would be appreciated..
altho i'll probably get th magnaflow, since it's cheaper, and that wil leave money for other mods...
thanks, Adam

RE: hks vs magnaflow
I say the Mag because you'll probably get a deeper or less "out there" sound. HKS is more Japanese-esque. even though your car IS japanese, you don't want it to exagerate the buzzyness of the inline 4 your car has. Magnaflow is more American. I know your car isn't American and I'm not saying it'll sound like a V-8, but it should be throatier.

RE: hks vs magnaflow
ya i want a nice deep sound, and that "burble" at idle like the SRT-4's have...
i dont want that ricey sound.... cuz that makes ur car sound like *** and cheap....
def. want to get a nice deep throaty sound as u said....
hopefully all goes well....
hehe, the one mod my dad told me not to do is exhaust.... haha, whoops.. sorry dad...
meh i think he'll forgive me.. my last car was a '92 civic with a b16
and trust me... that thing was LOUD!! i never put it past 5k rpm.... (the b16 redlines at 8.5k)

RE: hks vs magnaflow
ya, rotary's are quite loud...
but they sound sick tho... the right exhuast, and you can hear each combustion cycle thru the exhaust....
but i think magnaflow is where its at..
i dont want the bumblebee exhaust note that people will make fun of.
i want to impress people here.. mostly the females
haha, today some girl pointed at my car when i was driving...
she was either telling her female friend
1) hey look!! theres that guy who drives that sick car!!
OR
2) hey look!! theres that *** who always tries to be cool with his subs and racing by... ...
haha... whatever

RE: hks vs magnaflow
i have heard that the magnaflows aren't much less restrictive than the stock exhaust though. if you are worried about the "ricer" sound, you could always just throw an aftermarket resonator in the mix. that's what i did with my old protege and it sounded about like a mustang gt when i wound it out. it was more ground pounding than loud. nothing like the little rice burners around my city

RE: hks vs magnaflow
Yeah the rotary makes a "wish wish wish" sound with every rotarion (each corner of the rotor) when you are standing near the front wheels and when you move to the back it sounds about like a Dodge Viper "guruhruhruhruhruhruhruhruhruhruhruh" when you rev iwth the "wish" noise gose away from the front and is replaced by the dentist drill-like turbo the back goes "brurururururaaaaawwwww"
I love the way my car sounds.

RE: hks vs magnaflow
i have a custom cat-back2.5in exhaust w/resinator delete with a universal magnaflow muffler on it with a 2in outlet, it sounds like a little v6 4000rpm and lower, once it goes past that it does get that what some might call a ricer sound...sometimes, but the thing is not only do i have a custom exhaust it still has the same bends. Plus when i downshift i get a srt-4ish backfire sound some rapid and low some slow and loud. I can also get that little pop at high rpm if i tap the gas again. All i know is im getting the 3in magnaflow exhaust from trubendz when i start ordering mah turbo stuff.

RE: hks vs magnaflow
this place near my house.... Budget exhaust..
and they are a magnaflow dealer....
and im not worried so much about horsepower, mostly just the sound...
i think i read somewhere that the magnaflow will gain me 6hp, 6tq.
the hks gives i tihnk 10 and 15 ish....
but its not worth the extra $200
i tihnk i'll order up my exhaust either tomorow on my lunch break, or monday after school
