random thread to talk about whatever

Trying to move this thread along again. I was out Friday night, some stuff happened between then and now...so I felt like writing a bit (I'm a journalism student, but I have a poetry class as well):
Ignition on
Start, goddammit, I have somewhere to be
Lights flash, sputter, we got life in this bitch/ shift
To first/ hope the clutch grips got no cash for
New one/ the night
Is long/ back forth back forth
South shore, mid island
Empty lots/ empty tank/ empty wallet/ heavy heart
Mind on the future/ soul on the past

Vince, no offense intended, I mean you know I like and respect you but frankly I don't know what to make or say about that poem???? I am left confused even after days to think about it.
Onto another topic: I saw an RX-8 R3 in Aurora Blue Mica today. Texas license: BLU-RX8. While the car itself looks like almost any other RX8, I have to say two things.
1) It would look better in Rally White
And 2) I LOVVVEEEEE those wheels!!!! They would look great on a certain Mazda3 HB I happen to know....

Rich, it's a mimicry of New York poetry...it's the kind of thing that you get if you live here, I suppose. It's a play on Victor Hernandez Cruz's 60s/70s period.
Normally it wouldn't be relevant, but since I wrote about driving in general, I thought I'd post it.

Something that would be read dramatically over conga drums.

Yep Scott, that's exactly it. It's meant to be read in exactly the manner the line break down into...
To be honest, I'm not much of a poetry person (neither writing it nor reading it really suits my tastes), but this one felt pretty decent.

Y'know, my older brother and sister grew up in that era, more or less (grad '63 & '65) and neither adopted the beatnik or the hippie way of life. Silly them.
I grew up in the '60/'70's and wanted to be a hippie, but was only able to achieve a yippee status. You are BOTH too young to remember these times.
Just had to say that.
And Vince, I spent enough time in Greenwich Village and Harlem in the early '80's to know something about the New York state of mind.

I think you meant bongo drums. Congas hadn't been invented in the US in the beatnik era.

Greenwich Village doesn't matter to me...but I'll give you Harlem. That's definitely a true NY experience.
