I want to somehow make this one harder to rip off and am wondering if I could replace the ignition switch with an old style universal automotive switch.
What do you think, Ken? How can I make this thing more secure. And parking it indoors is not an option right now.
1. An old Ford or Chevy (50-60's era) ignition switch.
2.Cement an Eye into the ground that is big enough for a cable or chain to go through. Then chain it down to it.
3. Don't know exactly what mower you are getting, but on mine there is a spot on the top to put a twist lock with some minor modification and drilling a hole (quarter turn and the hood is locked).
Then you put a switch under the hood to disable the battery, or wing nuts to take the battery into your storage unit.

and alarm on your tractor . but yea these days its easier to take a vehicle by getting the right key... and alot of tractors (we have had about 20 of them so far since 2009 near where i live that have been stolen) because they are easier to copy.

Thanks for the replies, Guys (<<< Rhymes )
Thought about the cemented eye as a possibility. I could also drill a hole in each rear wheel to pass a heavy cable and lock on it.
No alarm on the house

I bought a "Big Box" JD LA135 from the same Lowe's I got the Huskie from. 22hp B&S (no cheap Kohler Courage for this puppy, though I love their professional model engines) 42" cut, hydrostatic. It was delivered and I used it today.
It's got its good points and its bad ones. If I could combine the best parts of both tractors I'd be happy. As it is, I'm going to have to override the reverse lock out when the blades are engaged, but I think that will be a simple thing to do. I just have too many things to avoid or mow around... trees, especially the mesquite trees with the 3" long thorns, stumps, bushes, branches, etc...

1 good point about my Craftsman, it has the position on the ignition to bypass the reverse cut off.
Now with the rear bagger on it I can climb my hills better

Exactly how my Huskie was too. This JD has the headlight switch as part of the ign instead. The Huskie had a seperate HL switch and choke which I liked better.
I looked at the current Craftsman lineup, the first stop I made, and many of which are made by Husqvarna but wasn't all that impressed.
Also, why do they put such unless headlights on these tractors? (<< A rhetorical question.) 2, 1156 automotive type bulbs pulling all of 4-6 watts each?? They shouldn't even bother.
For a while, I had an old Bosch clone fog light (55w H3) on the front of mine, but frankly I'm usually in bed early and almost never used it.

I know I was impressed with the Pro Series at Sears, but I was not going to spend $1200 more for the same basic mower with a 4 inch smaller deck, even though they were going to put the bumper on for free.
As for the head lights, I have a separate switch on mine as well as a separate choke.
Mine is 24 HP B&S Intech with a 6 speed manual, 46 inch with a 9 bushel bagger.

A Poulan Pro by another name. And yes, they are impressive to look at, all black and yellow, but they are also among the tallest and most unstable. My neighbor, Keith, has his eye on that one too.

I was looking at that same mower online, but my local store didn't seem to have one. All they had were the lesser model w/the "Courage" engine. EVERYTHING I've read about them says STAY AWAY, in capital letters.
I kinda' like the silver series paint/look.
The 24hp Intek is the same engine I had in the Huskie, and very similar to the 22hp B&S in the JD.

My last 1 had the 17HP Kohler pro in it, lost a ring in it, it still ran but for an extra $400 over the price of the motor I got the new lawn mower, then sold the other for the $400.
BTW mine was not in stock, but they got it in in 5 days.
